March is one of our favorite times of year here at Impeccable Landscapes and you can probably guess why. This is the first season during which lawn care is actually relevant since the fall. And with spring weather comes the beginning steps to take care of your lawn once again. If you are anything like us, you are probably itching to get back into your yard now that the temperature is about to warm up. On the other hand, you may not be entirely sure what you can do that this point in the year where your grass is concerned. If you want to get back out there, try the following tips in order to get your lawn off on the right foot this spring.
Removing Winter Damage
If there are any leaves, dirt of branches that are laying on top of your grass right now, it’s the perfect time to remove them. Even though your lawn has yet to start growing, branches and weeds will easily start to take advantage of your lawn because it is weak from the winter season. This is why it is a good idea to go ahead and remove them before growth does start to occur.
Preparing Your Lawn Care Tools
During the winter, most people store their lawn care equipment, including their lawn mower in their garage or shed. This is the perfect time of the year to take them out and clean them up. Be sure that everything is in working order so that when it is time to start caring for your lawn on a regular basis, you can get right to it.
If your lawn has warm season grass which include bermuda, zoysia, and St. Augustine, it is a good idea to have your lawn aerated in the early spring. While the calendar year started in January, the lawn care calendar begins in March and aeration is often the first step. In fact, aerating your lawn will provide you with the foundation you need in order to get a thick and healthy lawn for the rest of the year.
Mow, If You Need To
While it is unlikely that your grass will already need to be mowed, you may find that your grass already looks mildly long. If this is true of your lawn, we would suggest that you mow but be sure to only take a little bit off the top. Cutting your grass too short at this time of year will only make it more difficult to get the lawn you want in the coming seasons.
