Why Caring For Your Lawn Is Like Having An Extra Child

By: Impeccable Landscapes       May 11, 2017

There, we said it. Having a well-maintained lawn can sometimes feel like having an extra child. Kids and lawns have more in common than just being covered in dirt and occasionally needing water. We’ve pinpointed a few fun ways that having a lawn is like having an extra kid to take care of.

A Good Healthy Diet

Kids need a well-balanced diet, especially during the summer. Kids use a lot of energy running around when school is out, and keeping them full of protein and nutrients will help them to stay active all summer long.

Your lawn craves nutrients also. But instead of chicken nuggets and peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, lawns would prefer a hearty fertilizer. A lawn without fertilizer isn’t likely to thrive, especially as it tries to recover from the winter. Making sure that your lawn has all the nutrients it needs, including nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, is essential to keeping it green and growing.

Regular Haircuts

Okay, this one might be a stretch. But think about it! Imagine it’s the end of summer and your child is looking, for lack of a better word, a little scraggly. They spent the warmest days of the year in the pool, at the beach, and climbing trees. What do you do before you send your kids off to school again? Give them a haircut to keep them looking presentable.

Your lawn requires the same kind of attention to detail. Giving your lawn weekly haircuts, or as they say in the landscaping world – and everywhere else – mowing it, will keep it looking fresh and well-manicured throughout the year.

Nurture Vs. Nature

Kids don’t take care of themselves, and neither will your lawn. If you don’t nurture your child when they are young, they might grow up to be, well, not ideal. Meeting your child’s physical and emotional needs will help them to be strong and independent adults.

Lawns need nurture as well. If you let a lawn do whatever it wants, it will become overgrown, full of weeds and bugs, and will have your neighbors turning up their noses. Lawns require weekly mowing, proper nutrients, and the right amount of water in order to reach their full potential. That might sound like it requires a lot of time and energy on your part, but it doesn’t have to.

We’ll Maintain Your Lawn So You Don’t Have To!

Perhaps you are enjoying a kid-free life, and are just realizing you’re putting in the work of raising a child that you didn’t sign up for. Or maybe your children have grown up and moved out of the house, and you’re wondering why there’s still something on your property that you have to keep alive. Or maybe you already have a kid or two, and don’t want a third (especially one that just lays around in the sun all day).

As you can see, your lawn and your child might have more in common than you thought, including the amount of work it takes to keep it good and healthy!

In all seriousness, we know that raising a child is way more difficult and important than maintaining a green lawn. We also know that taking the pressure of keeping your lawn in perfect condition off of your shoulders will give you more quality time to spend with your actual kids this summer, and also give your family a nice place to run around and play.
