Snow Shoveling Laws

By: Impeccable Landscapes       October 7, 2015

In the coming months, snow will start to fall and whether you want to or not, you will need to shovel the snow off your sidewalks. Some of you have no issue with this, but the majority of us think it’s a cold and labor intensive task that we would rather not do. But we are here to tell you that there are many good reasons why you should clear your walkways.

It’s the law

The state of Washington has a law requiring all homeowners to clear the sidewalks within 24 hours of a snow storm. Failure to do this could result in misdemeanor charges and a hefty fine. In most areas, this means that you can wait until the snowing stops and then the 24 hour countdown begins. If you are in possession of a snowblower, you must be aware of your areas noise ordinance laws. If the noise from your snow blower violates the ordinance, you could again be facing charges and fines.

Safty

If you fail to clear the snow and ice from your sidewalks, you put everyone who walks by at risk. If a pedestrian walks on your snow covered sidewalks and falls, even if it is still snowing or hasn’t been 24 hours since the storm, they still have the right to take legal action against you if they are injured.

Both of these reasons are why Impeccable Landscapes offer snow removal services in the greater Spokane, Washington area. We want to keep you and your neighbors safe and warm this winter. If you are not a fan of shoveling your sidewalks, let us help. Call us today for a free estimate!
